99 years old and tea

I took my 99 year-old grandpa to cherry blossom viewing this weekend.  We parked our car by the trees.  We opened all the windows and viewed them from the car.  I prepared matcha at the little space between the driver’s and passenger’s seats.

As my grandpa drank the tea, some petals came in from the window onto his shoulder and lap.  How peaceful!

He was so happy with the blossoms and tea, and thanked me many times.  He sometimes doesn’t remember things, even my name.  However, he talks about the tea that I served at the past blossom viewings.  I think he enjoys the tea so much and it has a huge impact that it remains in his memories.   I hope the memory of this picnic will be with him as well.

    1. Hi, Adriano-san,
I think that Japanese food is good for a long life. Maybe, I should eat like how my grandpa has eaten. Let me see … what is his favorite food? Umm … It’s potato! But, I guess that potatoes are not the secret of longevity. Hahaha ^^

l think you should follow your grandpa's example-potatoes and green tea.lt may be a secret for a longevity although you're a bit skeptical.l will tell you about it in the next 60 years.l'm coming to Japan to have some tea with you in 2072.:)

  4. The image of the blossoms floating in while your grandfather was drinking his tea was so moving...as if the cherry blossoms understood the situation and wanted him to be as happy as when younger and sitting under a tree. Thank you for sharing this!
